charcoal from charcoal briquettes can be found anywhere its sold. supermarkets, hardware stores, walmart, etc.

sulfur can be bough on ebay.

KNO3 also ebay.

if you need any special chemicals, you can always buy stuff from http://www.unitednuclear.com

its a chemical supply company.

lastly, there are methods of getting KNO3 from the soil if you really can't buy it.

as far as I know, you can have as much a s 50 lbs of this stuff in your house without breaking a law.Anyone have a good recipe to make your own black powder?
It is a dangerous thing to do but you can find the recipe by doing a Google search. I recommend that you not do it because it could get you killed if you don't know what you are doing. If you insist on doing it anyway, just do not do it in or near your house where someone else will get killed when it explodes. The stuff is sensitive to friction and shock, not highly sensitive, but enough that many people have set it off while grinding the ingredients together. Google ';black powder recipes'; for the info.
The three ingredients are charcoal, sulfur, and saltpeter (NaNO3). It is a suspension that originally uses water to make a sort of slurry which then evaporates or is dried into a cake which is broken down into the desired granule size.
I learned how to make mine while learning to make my own fireworks.

These guys have some of the best info and directions out there. With these instructions you can make some very nice BP!

Yes, you can make it. Better to buy Prodex and save yourself a lot of trouble and less corrosion on your guns.
Everyone has left out the most important ingredient, a good life insurance policy.
There are several videos on Youtube, it's very easy.
Niter niter is usually sold in drug stores. used to be anyhow. look around. you can always get some pig urine and allow it to dry up in a cup.

Carbon is also sold, harder to find, but if you burn some sugar and crush it it is a high grade carbon.

Sulfur is still sold in drug stores, you have to look, may be listed as sublimed sulfur.

I have seen it made in equal parts of each.

That is 33%, 33%, 33%, go boom!
Pound out charcoal, viola! you have black powder
