Whats cheaper a single action black powder 44 revolver or a new smokeless powder revolver?

Whats better and witch is cheaper a black powder or a smokeless powder gun?Whats cheaper a single action black powder 44 revolver or a new smokeless powder revolver?
Let's break them both down

Single Action centerfires

- You have a lot of caliber choices based on 3 different frames(22lr/mag, 38/357, 44-40, 45lc, and 44mag) as well as barrels (4 5/8, 5 1/2, 6 1/2, 7 1/2). A 38/357 would be great to play around with and is really the only centerfire choice if you shoot factory ammo. I take that back, the ruger blackhawk can have a 45acp cylinder.

- Ruger Vaqueros and Uburti Cattleman are great high quality fixed sight revolvers. The sights are pretty good about being windage and elevation but you can be off several inches in any direction at 25 yards. You can have a gunsmith dovetail a drift adjustable front sight on though.

- Ruger blackhawks have adjustable sights.

- If going with a 45lc, realize that you can only shoot magnum loads in the Blackhawk and the Vaquero (not the brand new model that came out last year though)

- Centerfires are going to cost $500 new. Used could be 350-400.

Cap and Ball

- Comes in basically a 36 or a 44. If you plan on hunting with it, check the regulations in terms of ';is it a muzzleloader'; and if you need the 44 cal.

- The 1851 and 1860 shoot up to foot high at 25 yards because they are meant to be dead on at 75/100. Like the fixed sight centerfire, a gunsmith can make a drift adjustable front sight for you. The 1858 tends to shoot a little low but you can file the front sight down on your own to where you want it. I believe Uburti makes their 1858 with a dovetailed front sight where Pietta (cabelas/basspro) does not. Check on that though as i have the Pietta.

I really like the 1858 because the cylinder comes out without taking the whole gun apart and for that reason I would recomend that one.

- These things are slow to load and do take a lot of time to clean. They are fun though.

- Cost is typically 200-300 depending on the model and brand. You have to buy some accessories though like a powder measurer, nipple wrench, etc.

Two more things I'd like to add.

1. You can buy a conversion cylinder for your blackpowder revolver and you can shoot smokeless 45lc in them (low pressure ';cowboy rounds';) --- or 38 specials if you buy a 36cal. Those things cost about 250-300 dollars. So you have a cap and ball and a centerfire for around the same price as a centerfire Ruger/Uburti. Be sure to get the 1858 though as, again, the cylinder pops right out.

2. If you like the look and feel of a cap and ball, Uburti does make a converted gun with a gate, ejectors and everything. It's just like the single action army reproduction except it's based on the 1851/1860/1858.

Cost is again around 500 dollars.

Hope that helpsWhats cheaper a single action black powder 44 revolver or a new smokeless powder revolver?
Generally a cap and ball revolver will be cheaper. Just about all the big box hunting retailers sell them; Cabela's and Bass Pro.

A good steel framed revolver in something like an 1860 Colt or an 1858 Remington will cost about $200. A cartridge revolver like the Ruger will set you back at least twice that, say about $400.
You can spend a lot or a little on both. If you just want to have fun shooting targets it really does not matter. But if you want a practical gun for self or home defence you need to go with a modern gun that shoots cartridges.
One you can buy through the mail and the other you have to get from a FFL Dealer or gun shop and fill out the paperwork.

They wil both kill someone just as dead.
